INGREDIENT GUIDE

KPV: the fourth ingredient in KLOW

KPV is a tripeptide (lysine-proline-valine) taken from the tail end of the hormone alpha-MSH. It has been studied in cells and in mouse models of colitis. FDA has not identified any human exposure data for it.

Where does KPV come from?

Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) is a natural hormone with anti-inflammatory activity. KPV is its last three amino acids. Researchers study it because it keeps some of that anti-inflammatory activity in lab models while being much smaller.

What has been studied?

In human intestinal cell lines, KPV reduced inflammatory signaling, and in two mouse models of colitis, KPV in drinking water reduced markers of inflammation. Another mouse study reported similar anti-inflammatory potential. These are early findings. FDA’s safety review states it has not identified any human exposure data for KPV.
